Charlotte's Davis Lake Harris Teeter's Grand Opening August 8th, 2012

The Shoppes at Davis Lake welcome the new Harris Teeter grand opening tomorrow August 8th, 2012 at 6am.  Regular store hours are 6am - 11pm.  It looks like they will do a little pomp and circumstance tomorrow morning at 8am to open the store.  Hooray, we get a grocery store back after it closed (as the former Lowe's Grocery) essentially two months ago.

Word is that it is double coupon day at the Teeter too.

Wednesday, hump day gets a bump from Harris Teeter Opening

The classy semi trailer draped with a sign in the parking lot at the Shoppes at Davis Lake in North Charlotte 28269 has gone from "Harris Teeter Coming Soon!" to "Harris Teeter Opens Wednesday!"  The eye popping yellow background does catch the eye.  I am just picking on Harris Teeter, for the short term I don't think there is much better way to communicate the new store location and grand opening more effectively than with the removable tractor trailer sign.  That still sounds sarcastic, even though that is not my intention.  It is hard not to sound sarcastic about a fancy city-like semi trailer sign found at most flea markets.

I know that the former Lowe's Grocery Store offered some type of online shopping, but I don't feel as though they ever advertised it properly.  Maybe I am wrong, maybe many people used it and that I never saw anyone using it at Lowe's Grocery at Davis lake doesn't mean it wasn't used. Harris Teeter has more clearly (at least to me) advertised they offer online shopping and pickup.

The front of the new Harris Teeter at Davis Lake is plastered every 8 feet with small signs that clearly convey that the store will open Wednesday August 8, 2012.  I guess this is for the people who don't trust the first several signs that they see and need to be reminded a fifth or sixth time that the Harris Teeter opens tomorrow August 8th.

Davis Lake Fitness Room Review

UPDATE:  July 31, 2012
The Davis Lake fitness room has a new-to-it TV.  Funny to celebrate the minimum, but we will.

Davis Lake Fitness Room

I have been trying to spend some time working out at the Davis Lake Club House fitness room to improve my well being and take advantage of all the dues I am paying to the Davis Lake Homeowners Association to take care of all the common property amenities.  The fitness room is located in the basement of the Davis Lake Club House 1000 Davis Lake Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28269.  Entrance to the fitness room is at pool level on the lower back side of the club house - not very intuitive since there are no clear signs.

Do check out the fitness room sign-in sheet, it has hilarious suggestions, complaints on the general lack of attention and upkeep with the fitness room.  Former Davis Lake Board member Tom Wolf has even wrote on the sign up sheet telling people to quit complaining and do something about the poor condition of the fitness room.  Sadly, Tom Wolf is just the type of person who usually sits on the Davis Lake Board, not very good customer service.

I think that is what former Board member Tom Wolf is failing to see, the homeowners pay a fee for a service for the Davis Lake Board Homeowners/Community Association, the Board has a fiduciary duty to the members and I think people are wondering why the amenities are in such poor condition.  There are many examples of money better spent, like the redundant street sign memorials that cost a reported $35k+ a pop.

The Davis Lake fitness room is looking pretty sad, although I am not sure if it ever looked pristine.  The floors are dirty and the smell of musty mold is strong.  I am assuming the air quality is not the greatest while I am huff and puffing in the basement fitness room.  There is one floor fan, the same model that is sold at Home Depot (I hope they bought it at Charlotte's own Lowe's Companies and supported the home town folks).  The weights are even rusty from the humidity in the fitness room.

The choices of exercise machines is poor, meaning that aren't many and they are a few that don't work properly (hello possible negligence lawsuit).  I have no idea when, if ever, the fitness room was cleaned.  The floors are covered in dirt and general filth.  There was no vacuum cleaner, I looked.

Many of you may be thinking "wow, is that an old CRT Tube TV?"  Yes it is.  The worst part is that as of today it is not even there.  The old TV quit, meaning it stopped working entirely and it was removed in the last week or so.  The picture quality was as good as you would think from a Sanyo beauty of this era.

I saw this past week in the Davis Lake Home Owners email that the Davis Lake Board of Directors is asking for someone to donate a TV.  I am guessing after putting in the redundant neighborhood street name monuments recently the Davis Lake Board of Directors tapped out the Home Owner's reserves for a new TV.   I new 32" LCD TV costs less than $400, peanuts to the $600,000 in Home owner dues revenue.

The best for last: the Davis Lake fitness room is in need of cleaning.  There are papers and dirt tracked in all over the floor.  Dirty fitness equipment is just the start, there are bugs.  Do spiders count as bugs?  For our purposes they do.  I wonder if Highland Creek has better fitness rooms?

Davis Lake Board Member Wins "Lawn of the Month" - again.

Davis Lake "Lawn of the Month" sign in Davis Lake Board Member Terry Potts' yard July 2012..
Davis Lake Board Member Terry Pott's has been awarded the Law of the Month from the Davis Lake Architecture Review Board (ARB)  The Davis lake ARB is the Board that tells you if you can paint your house a certain color or not, or if you can replace your roof.  The Davis lake ARB is appointed and confirmed by the Davis Lake Board members, which makes it all the more humorous that they award themselves Lawns of the Month.

It is admirable the Davis Lake ARB was able to look past the large, unshielded Duke Energy power box in the front yard area of Terry Potts' Chimney Ridge Trail front yard in recognizing the beauty of her front lawn for the second time in the past 18-months (according to the Davis Lake Neighborhood Communique).  The other homes in the Deer Cross section of Davis lake need to pick up their game to Terry Potts' level to make sure she doesn't bring home the yard of the month for a third time in less than two-years.

Other notable sitting Davis Lake Board Members beat out their neighbors they serve for the Lawn of the Month accolades too, notably Board Member Betty Lee.

Harris Teeter Execs Coming to Davis Lake July Board Meeting

UPDATE x2:  Target opening date of August 1, 2012 - more likely around August 10, 2012.

UPDATE:  The July 11, 2012 Davis Lake HOA Board Meeting will feature two guests community police officer (we are not sure what he does for Davis Lake in addition to his normal duties as a CMPD officer) CMPD Officer Chuck Sayre and the Harris Teeter President Fred Morganthall.

The latest Davis lake email blasts announced that several Harris Teeter Executives are coming for a "special appearance" to the 7pm - July 11, 2012 Davis Lake Board meeting at the Davis Lake Club House (the clubhouse is the building at the pool) to discuss all things Teeter.  The Harris Teeter President, an obligatory Communications person (to record everything for the record) "and others" will be there to entertain questions from the hopeful Davis Lake contingent.  All are welcome to come out and ask the open ended question of "when ya'll opening?"  And "Lowe's Foods used to do it this way.. Why don't you?"

Please limit yourself to one absurd question so as to let all have a turn.

Goodbye Lowe's grocery, hello Harris Teeter

The former Lowe's Grocery store (soon to reopen as a Harris Teeter Grocery) at the Davis Lake Shoppes.

Since all the Lowe's in Mecklenburg County are sold to Harris Teeter  they are being closed permanently or to re-brand or grocery store is closed for the short term.  Look for a reopening around August 1, 2012.
